Gloriana Monko
Gloriana J. Monko is an Assistant Lecturer, AI practitioner and researcher at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the College of Informatics and Virtual Education- The University of Dodoma (UDOM). She is currently pursuing her PhD studies at Shibaura Institute of Technology, Tokyo in the field of AI-Natural Language Processing.
She has fairly an experience on research projects and consultancies around the area of her expertise and her research interests focus on: Computer Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing; STEM initiatives, Promoting Gender equality and inclusion; Critical thinking and Problem solving for employability and social change.
Gloriana has executed several major projects including Transforming Employability for Social Change in East Africa (TESCEA) from (2018-202), Designing Low-cost Physics Toolkits for Elementary and Secondary School Students to encourage participation of girls in STEM from (2020-2022) and Establishment of multidisciplinary and gender-inclusive Africa’s Anglophone Artificial Intelligence for Development Research Laboratory from (2021-present). She has also been involved in a research of Improving Pharmacovigilance Systems Using Natural Language Processing on Electronic Medical Records.
Gloriana is also a co-founder with Northwest University in Chicago for establishing the organization named Women Supporting Women in the Sciences (WS2) https://ws2global.org/. She is also a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). Gloriana also serves as Liaison Manager and Gender Coordinator of Africa’s Anglophone AI4D Lab, a lab run by the collaboration of two universities (i.e The University of Dodoma and Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology).
